Bristol Japanese Cultural Society

Making Japanese Culture more Accessible

Bringing Japanese tradition and community to the heart of Bristol.

Welcome to the Bristol Japanese Cultural Society (BJCS)

We are a community-led organisation dedicated to celebrating and sharing Japanese culture with people across Bristol and the South West. Whether you're passionate about traditional arts, curious about Japanese language and customs, or simply love the food, music, or anime—there’s a place for you here.

Throughout the year, we host a wide variety of events and workshops, from tea ceremonies and calligraphy to film screenings, language exchanges, and more! Every event is designed to be welcoming, accessible, and open to all!

BJCS is for everyone: local Japanese residents, long-time Japan enthusiasts, language learners, and complete newcomers alike. Our goal is to build bridges across cultures, foster friendships, and create spaces where people can explore, learn, and connect through the richness of Japanese culture.

We invite you to join us—come along to an event, sign up for our newsletter, or get involved as a volunteer.

We can’t wait to meet you!

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.

Thanks to the generous support of BJCS, several Students have been able to make significant progress in their research and have now successfully graduated. In particular, Emily, who earned her PhD, was able to complete her studies thanks to your organization’s support. We are truely grateful. With your help, our research has advanced smoothly, and our students have obtained their doctoral and bachelor’s degrees. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and kindly ask for your continued support in the future.

We want to let you know how special is it to have your continued support! Your recent showcase was clearly another huge success! I understand that the event sold out once again. A huge thank you for the time and care you put into these events and for choosing to support us.

“

The strong ethos your society holds, of giving back to the future generations of children and communities in the Southwest, aligns perfectly with our ethos and values.
