Our Story

A few words from the Chairwoman -

“The idea for this charity began when I was involved in supporting sister-city activities between Bath in the UK and Beppu in Oita, Japan. Through that experience, I started to wonder if something similar could be created in Bristol—a place where people could connect with and celebrate Japanese culture.

While London often hosts a wide range of Japanese cultural events thanks to its many Japan-related organizations, the southwest of England has far fewer opportunities to experience Japan’s traditions and creativity. Out of both curiosity and a desire to share, I thought: why not bring a piece of Japan to Bristol?

As someone who has always loved kimono and Japanese arts, I wanted to create opportunities for local communities to experience these aspects of Japanese culture in a hands-on, engaging way.

Having grown up exposed to different cultures myself, I know how valuable those experiences can be. They broaden our perspectives, shape our understanding of the world, and often leave a lasting impact on our lives. Whether an encounter sparks excitement, curiosity, or even surprise, that emotional connection leads to discovery—and that’s what makes cultural exchange so powerful.

Through this charity, we aim to build a bridge between Japan and the UK by promoting mutual understanding, appreciation, and friendship through cultural experiences that bring people together.”

Our Mission

To connect people in the UK and Japan through the beauty of cultural exchange — sharing traditional and modern Japanese culture with local communities through events, workshops, and education.

We aim to inspire curiosity, creativity, and friendship by offering meaningful opportunities for people to experience Japan, not just observe it.

Our Vision

A community where Japanese and British cultures come together in everyday life — where mutual understanding, respect, and inspiration grow naturally through shared experiences.

We believe that cultural connection has the power to break barriers, enrich lives, and build a more open and compassionate world.

Our Values

Cultural Connection

We believe culture is a bridge — a way for people to meet, learn, and grow together.

Authentic Experience

We share Japanese culture in a genuine, respectful way — from language and art to daily traditions — always with care and appreciation.

Inclusivity & Openness

Our events and activities are for everyone. We welcome all backgrounds and levels of experience, encouraging exploration and curiosity.

Education & Inspiration

We aim to teach, but also to inspire — helping people see how culture can shape creativity, understanding, and community spirit.

Friendship & Collaboration

We work together — with local partners, artists, teachers, and volunteers — to build lasting relationships between Japan and the UK.
